Aims and activities of the organisation

Urgench State University named after Al-Khorezmi (UrSU) was founded by the decree #356 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on February 28th in 1992 on the base of Khorezm Pedagogical State Institute. The university currently offers 44 Bachelor degrees, 12 Master degrees and 13 PhD programs on different fields of study. Twenty-five (25) teachers obtained their PhD degrees in Europe. The total number of students is 6,828, ninety-four (94) of which are foreign. There are 450 teachers-professors work at 9 faculties. The university has 7 main buildings, 4 student's dormitories, 2 informational resource centers, many sport clubs and other opportunities for student's entertainments. Read more

Approximately 1,500 students graduate from the university every year. The majority of them are hired by the leading local companies, governmental and non-governmental organizations. All students and teaching staff have free access to high speed Internet. There are about 800 personal computers and 27 computer classes. Scientific researches were conducted at ZEF/UNESCO “Economic and ecological restructuring land and water use in the Khorezm region” with the cooperation of UrSU for 12 years. UNESCO chair “Education for Sustainable development” was opened in 2011. European professors and teachers often join in and deliver lectures for the students of UrSU. The University is currently  involved in many international projects with partners such as: CABI of Switzerland, ZEF of Bonn University, Mashav of Israel, CRDF of the USA, KOICA of South Korea, ICARDA of Syria, GIZ of Germany, PROON, UNDP, LOGO e.V, Weihenstephan-Triesdorf, CIM UNESCO, ACCESS, RGB virtual reading hall of Russian State Library, USDA.

The role of UrSU in the CLASS project

  • Developing an action plan in each six month

  • Purchasing equipment for administrative and teaching issues in Uzbekistan

  • Developing and approving curriculum of master program

  • Developing syllabuses and content materials of the course distributed equally among the Uzbek partners

  • Developing Open online courses

  • Developing NLP tools

  • Creating video rollers

  • Developing sharing materials, e‐books and methodological books on CL distributed equally among the Uzbek partners

  • Reporting to SC

  • Regional administrative project management

  • Task distribution among the local project team

  • Teaching and instructing CA academic staff in syntactic, morphological and semantic structure of the English language

  • 5 academic staff participation in training on teaching CL with blended learning technology

  • 5 academic staff participation in training on development methodologies for NLP tools

  • Introducing developed master program to other HEIs

  • Organizing student enrollment procedure

An author of over 30 publications in computational linguistics, language engineering, artificial intelligence and pattern recognition.Since 2009 member of program committee of annual international Language & Technology Conferences (2009, 2011, 2013, 2015) (www.ltc.amu.edu.pl). A national contact person (NCP) for H2020 ICT/FET. A teacher on subject Information systems for first level master students.

Dr.Urazboev carried out scientific research at the universities of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), Duisburg-Essen (Germany), St.Petersburg State Polytechnical University (Russia). He is National Contact Point of 7th Framework Programme (FP7). He gives lectures on mathematical linguistics.
