Aims and activities of the organisation

UniWA is a public, self-governed, multi-disciplinary, technology-oriented higher education Institution (5 Faculties, 27 Dept, 20.000 students, 1.000 staff members).  Great emphasis is laid on the curricula of the Departments which are continuously revised in order to keep pace with all the recent developments in technology and to be tailored to the needs of the labour market. The students of UniWA acquire theoretical knowledge, but also develop practical skills for organizing and conducting both, research and field practice on the engineering and technology. Read more

UniWA has already involved in research projects financed by EU, the Hellenic Government and other similar bodies. Long lasting and fruitful collaboration exists with many university all over the world for projects related to Erasmus+, e.g. “Curriculum development”, “Quality Assurance”, “Institution building” etc.

UniWA has been successfully accredited, recently (2016), by international committee of experts.

The Faculty of Technological Applications actively promotes and supports the link between academic research and vocational education. It contains departments dedicated to Surveying & Geoinformatics Eng, Civil Eng, Informatics, Energy Technology and Electronics. In other Faculties Disciplines like: Marketing, Tourism Enterprises, Antiquities Conservation, Biomedical Engineering, Health and Caring Professions, Fine Arts etc., belonging to different faculties can support the success of a variety of projects.

Postgraduate study programs offer systematic and comprehensive knowledge in 26 domains; while specific registered laboratories support the resource activities at UniWA.

The role of UniWA in the CLASS project

  • Developing an action plan
  • Task distribution among the local project team
  • Developing, monitoring and approving the master program curriculum
  • Creating and maintaining the web site of the project
  • Organizing and hosting annual meeting
  • Management and monitoring with U.PORTO partner of WP2 activities in CA partner universities
  • Creating video rollers for disseminating, sharing experience and for teaching process with blended learning as introduction course.

Katerina Georgouli

UniWA Team Coordinator

She is a Professor at the Department of Informatics where she teaches the courses of Artificial Intelligence and Compilers. PhD in Intelligent Educational Software, MSc in Intelligent Systems and Cognitive Science, Diploma of Mathematics. Read more

She conducts research on the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Tutoring Systems, Adaptive Educational Environments, Learning Technologies and Asynchronous E-Learning. She has published papers in scientific journals and international conferences with considerable number of citations and she is a reviewer of international journals. She is a member of the Educational Technology and E-learning Systems laboratory’s scientific committee. She has a considerable experience on the organization of training courses on both knowledge-based and e-learning technologies. She has over 15 years of experience at Tempus and Erasmus+ Mundus Projects.

Nikitas Karanikolas

Project Member

Professor in the Department of Informatics of TEI of Athens. He graduated from the department of Statistics and Informatics of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) and received his PhD from the department of Applied Informatics of AUEB, in 1994. Read more

Dr. Karanikolas academic interests are: Medical Informatics; Natural Language Processing and Understanding; Computational Linguistics; Information Retrieval; Text Data Mining; Databases; e-Commerce. He has authored 15 Journal papers, 4 papers as book contributions and 50 Conference papers. In most of them, he is the first or the only author. He is also author of five books (which are primary textbooks in Greek Universities) and editor of 3 conference proceedings.

 

Cleo Sgouropoulou

Project Member

Dr Cleo Sgouropoulou (Mrs.) is an Associate Professor at TEI of Athens, Head of the Department of Informatics and Director of the Institute for Lifelong Education (ILE). Read more

Her research interests lie in the fields of design, development and standardisation of Learning Technology and Research Information Systems. Dr Sgouropoulou has published her work in several scientific journals and conference proceedings and has participated as coordinator or main researcher in numerous national and European-funded projects related to e-Learning, Open Educational Resources (OER), learning outcomes, competence and skills modelling for strengthening LLL, mobility and training to employment pathways, Open Data and analytics for e-Research.

 

John Kiousopoulos

Project Member

Professor of Urban Planning & Regional Development, Dept. of Civil Eng. and Surveying & Geoinformatics Eng., Faculty of Technological Applications. PhD in Economic & Regional Planning, MSc in Regional Planning. Diploma of Agronomy & Surveying Eng. and Diploma of Architecture. Read more

He is teaching the courses: “Project Management” and “Integrated Management of the Coastal Space and the Marine Environment” (MSc), “Architecture”, “Urban Planning” and “Building Technology” “Urban Planning” and “Physical Planning & Regional Development”. He is serving as: Board member of Hellenes Urban and Regional Planners Association. Ex-President of the Hellenic Regionalists Association, Ex-Member of the National Committee for Spatial Planning & Sustainable Development, Ex-Head of the Surveying Eng. Dept., TEI of Athens, Head of Spatial Analysis Laboratory, TEI of Athens. Scientific coordinator or participant in many research projects, author of many papers. President of the Hellenes Regionalists Association (2002-04) and member of the National Council of Physical Planning and Sustainable Development (2000-2005). Currently, he is board member of the Hellenes Urban and Regional Planners Association. Prof Kiousopoulos is member of his Department’s study program evaluation committee and the committee of the running MSc program.
